Bryan Scagline joins the TRIBE.

Bryan Scagline has been selected by the one and only Colin Sander to join the Tribe!

“Bryan Scagline has been an avid promoter and shepherd of Kendama and all that it teaches for years now. Hailing from Elizabeth PA, he really helped Kendama’s reach in PA when he became an expert at the Apple Store in Pittsburgh’s South Hills. Always leaving up classic edits like Japan Tour 2012 or Kendama Edit 8 on the biggest screens in the store, he got countless new eyes on the product. He would even go as far as getting customers picking up Go-pro’s to cop their first ken online in the Kendama USA web store after giving them brief mind-blowing demos.

Aside from being a go-getter and incredible salesperson, Bryan’s got the type of kind heart that takes time out of his day when neighborhood kids show up to his work in the mall, asking if they can battle him in Ken. Luckily his managers would often let him step out to entertain, and his record is still nearly spotless. With a fluid and unique style reminiscent of Jake Wiens, he is full of invention and consistency. When he isn’t ripping up the sales floor at apple or shredding on the dama, he’s hanging with his deep crew of friends that all know how to have a good time. Bryan found Kendama through his friendship with Zack Yourd, and quickly took to it’s tricks and creativity, having also been an experienced skateboarder & snowboarder himself. Enjoy Bryan Scagline’s Tribe edit, and look for him to hold down the Pittsburgh scene for years to come!” -Colin Sander

Joris Schweppe joins the TRIBE.

Joris Schweppe has been selected by the one and only Keith Matsumura to join the Tribe!

“I met Joris when I traveled to Denmark for the European Kendama Open. I was instantly amazed at his skill with a Kendama, but as I got to spend more quality time with him I was even more impressed by his character and passion. He plays Kendama with incredible amounts of determination, focus, and creativity. I even had the chance to watch him become the European Kendama Champion. Joris loves coffee, tea, and is studying cinematography in his home country of Holland. I chose Joris as for Tribe because of what he represents. He represents hard work, progression and innovation of Kendama, diversity in interests, motivation, and trustworthiness. I’m glad to call Joris my friend and beyond stoked to welcome him to the Tribe!”                           – Keith Matsumura

“Already popular on Rooms: beat boxing, Kicks from Above (cool shoes in cool places) and mouth watering, home-cooked meals, not to mention families who have ditched suburbia to raise their kids on the road and Facebook employees obsessively playing Kendama, a traditional Japanese game.” -Jessica Guynn, USA Today

World of Dance Recap

World of dance San Diego was a treat for us. There were a handful of kids that showed up just to see the Kendama USA booth. Tj Kolesnik and Dave Mateo had fun jamming with some of the locals and new shredders of San Diego. Kristian Aynedter of Grain Theory was a huge help giving some awesome tips and tricks to all who stopped by. The set up at the booth couldn’t have been better. We had a view of the main entrance as well as an overhead view of the all styles battle. Carolina and Dave (Elephants&Rabbits) decided to enter at the last minute and to our surprise, they made it to the top 8. Big ups to World of Dance on the events and huge THANK YOU for having us.

Check out the photos and enjoy, hope to see you all at the next event.

Kendama USA Welcomes Wyatt Bray to the TRIBE

Kendama USA has always been about family. We have always been about sharing this game that we love, and helping to spread and grow the scene here in the states and throughout the world. Those that have joined us on our Kendama mission share this passion and are amazing representatives for the game and culture. They travel the world, teach others how to play, represent KenUSA at events, perform for audiences far-and-wide, and put forth a good positive face for kendama to all those they encounter.  As Kendama continues to grow, so does our crew.  We’re happy to announce that we have created a new wing of the Kendama USA family, the TRIBE.

Tribes are families. Tribes are small societies built on shared efforts towards a common goal. Tribes are primitive elements of being human and connecting with others.  Our current team is made up of such a diverse group of unique individuals, and we wanted this same eclectic mix to be reflected as our own family grows.  We’ve asked each current member of our team to hand pick the players that they personally feel would be ideal to support and welcome into the crew.  Colin Sander was the first Pro on Kendama USA, so naturally it made sense for him to lead the way and announce the very first member of the Kendama USA TRIBE:  Wyatt Bray.

Wyatt is a kendama player hailing from Portland, Oregon whose wild combos, refreshing creativity, and contagious positivity has made waves across the kendama-community. His personality and style are so unique, and this clearly shines through in his kendama-play. He is the first member of the Kendama USA TRIBE.

Enjoy Wyatt’s Kendama USA TRIBE announcement edit.

More TRIBE announcements will be made in the near future.  Who’s next?
